I am beyond thrilled Biden won this election. Seeing the behavior and the Republicans, this really was our last ditch effort to save our democracy.
I am going to list what I’m still worried about. Feel free to talk me down.
1. They are planning an objection to various state’s Electoral Votes on Jan. 6th.
I had thought that GA and AZ were more or less safe from this, as the election apparatus is fully or partially GOP controlled. After what Loeffler/Perdue have done in calling for the resignation of the SOS, now I’m not sure. What if they offer objections to votes in every state they can (AZ, GA, PA, WI, MI) with their wild accusations? The House and Senate then vote seperately on whether to ackowledge those objections. If we have 50 dems, no problem. Can we count on Romney, Murkowski, and a couple other grown-ups to back the results? The play here would be to send election to House delegations voting. You’d think this is where the Sasse/Rubio contingent critical of Trump could make an easy vote for Democracy. But given what we’ve seen, does that vote destroy any Presidential ambitions they may have?
2. They are planning shenanigans with the Electoral College.
It has been established that it is not legal for a state legislature to seat their own electors after the election. However, so what. Sure it’s against the law. But what if the PA, GA, AZ, and other legislators choose a slate of electors and have them crash the party on voting day? It would be sorted out, but that could be used either as the basis of an objection to the electoral votes cast or force a SCOTUS ruling, which should be 9-0, that codifies the law. I don’t think Roberts would allow the court to decide otherwise. But it sure makes for chaos and conspiracy theory all the way up until Jan 6th. And of course, again, the play is to get the vote into the House.
3. They are going to run out the clock and push the election to the House.
Mess with the electoral college, sow chaos, mass riots and protests, create false conflict, delay and confuse, setting it up for the SCOTUS to rule, as in Bush v Gore, that in the interests of the country, we will take advantage of that Contitutional remedy. Which of course re-elects Trump.
So, someone talk me down. Give me reasons the above won’t happen.
